Cheltenham Gold Cup
Cheltenham Gold Cup
The Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup is the Festival’s most prestigious jumps race, featuring legends like Golden Miller, Arkle, Dawn Run, Desert Orchid, Best Mate, and Kauto Star.
The race tests stamina and jumping over 22 fences before the punishing final climb. Just nine horses have won it more than once, including Galopin Des Champs (2023–24), Al Boum Photo (2019–20), Kauto Star (2007/09), and Best Mate (2002–04).
Lightly raced chasers dominate, with most winners having 12 or fewer prior starts, and nearly all having previous Festival success. Class is key: every winner this century had a Grade 1 win. Age is also a guide—seven to nine is typical, with 12 of the last 13 winners aged seven or eight. Ireland has supplied nine of the last ten winners.
