Triumph Hurdle
Triumph Hurdle
The final day of the Festival opens with the JCB Triumph Hurdle, the championship for four-year-old hurdlers. Many winners go on to bigger achievements, including four horses who later won the Champion Hurdle, most recently Katchit, while Persian War (1967) claimed three consecutive Champion Hurdles and Tiger Roll (2014) went on to five Festival wins and back-to-back Grand Nationals.
Field sizes have dropped since the Fred Winter Juvenile Hurdle began in 2005, with graded form increasingly key—17 of the last 21 winners returned at 10/1 or shorter. The Spring Juvenile Hurdle in Dublin has become a reliable guide, with winners including Majborough, Tiger Roll, and Countrywide Flame.
From 2026, all Grade 1 Novices’ and Juvenile Hurdle participants must have run over hurdles before, following 100/1 Poniros’s 2025 shock win. Willie Mullins saddled 11 runners that year, including Poniros, while Nicky Henderson and Gordon Elliott have also been regular top contenders.
